What is Palliative Care?
DEFINITION OF PALLIATIVE CARE (Adapted from the World Health Organisation’s definition of Palliative Care)
Palliative Care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing problems associated with life-threatening illness, through the prevention and relief of suffering. Palliative Care focuses on the treatment of pain and other problems, integrating the physical, psychosocial and spiritual aspects of care. Palliative Care offers a support system to help patients live as actively as possible and also offers a support system to help the family cope during the patient’s illness.
