Blackrock Hospice provides undergraduate education for medical students from University College Dublin (UCD).
Post graduate education is provided for Nurses and General Practitioners
The Hospice is an accredited training institution for higher specialist training in Palliative Medicine.
Recognised postgraduate clinical placements for: Social Work (UCD); Art Therapy (QUB); Counseling Psychology (TCD); Clinical Psycholoy (TCD, UCD, UCG).
Research
Blackrock Hospice has an active research programme. Current research projects include:
- Preference for place of care and death for cancer patients (Jointly funded by the Health Research Board (HRB) and the Irish Hospice Foundation (IHF)
- Palliative Care needs of patients with end-stage heart failure and COPD (funded by the Board of Directors, Our Lady’s Hospice Ltd.)
- Trial of alvimopam in the treatment of opioid-induced bowel dysfunction in cancer patients (GSK Pharmaceuticals sponsored trial)
- Satisfaction with Home Care Services
