Education and Research Centre

Welcome to the Education and Research Centre

Education based on the latest research plays a key role in the delivery of quality service in Our Lady’s Hospice and Care Services. The Education Department which started with Palliative Care Nurse Education in 1987 has grown and developed into a large Education and Research Centre. We serve health care practitioners in the three areas Palliative Care, Rheumatology and Gerontology. We undertake research, providing education and training to our own staff and to many others who avail our excellent facilities.

The Education & Research Centre was opened by the Minister of Health & Children, Mary Harney in April 2008. It provides five classrooms, a lecture hall for 145 people, a library and information centre, a reading area and a large reception area.

Education, research and training provide the bedrock of a quality service to patients and their families, with professional care and practice soundly evidence-based on the latest national and international research.

The Centre participates in medical, nursing and allied healthcare undergraduate education and provides postgraduate education and clinical placement in the three areas of specialism.

We undertake research and offer courses, conferences / symposia and workshops to external practitioners across the spectrum of healthcare disciplines.
